Technical Lead - Carbon-free Electricity

Climate17 are working exclusively with an action driven, non-profit international organisation, who have been established for 20 years and work together with global organisations prioritising climate action and a world of net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

This is a newly created role, for an industry expert with sound technical knowledge and experience from the renewable electricity market sector. The role is offered on a hybrid basis, with a balance of home and office working, based near Tower Bridge in comfortable open plan offices with great amenities including an onsite gym and bike parking!

Responsibilities

As Technical Lead you will be the authority for 24/7 carbon free electricity, with the task of developing process and impactful technical criteria for the 24/7 campaign. You will navigate complex technical issues, definitions and related topics around transparent tracking and reporting of carbon free electricity generation, storage and usage. Key tasks include:

  • Develop operational rules for companies to track and report progress towards 24/7 carbon free electricity goals.
  • Guide technical research and stakeholder engagement to inform the design and development of the 24/7 carbon free electricity commitment proposition.
  • Identify, develop and manage working relationships with technical experts in renewable electricity sourcing, renewable/carbon free tracking instruments, grid balancing, electricity storage and other key components including CDP, NREL, RMI, RECs International and the i-TRACK standard foundation.
  • Support Project Managers in developing relationships and strengthening relationships with technical bodies and regulators.
  • Provide technical liaison with prospective corporate members and represent the 24/7 initiative at various external forums, workshops and events.
  • Work closely with the Comms team and Governments and Policy team to deliver policy focused goals.
  • Keep up to date with developments in Greenhouse Gas Protocol and corporate renewables procurement.

Requirements

  • Proven knowledge and experience of renewable energy markets and/or market-based scope 2 emissions reporting.
  • Familiarity with the GHG Protocol Corporate Standard.
  • Skilled in engaging with complex technical concepts and communicate to multiple stakeholders and non-technical audiences.
  • Able to work proactively and independently to achieve campaign objectives.
  • Analytical mindset, with innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Able learn, digest, develop and inform on new technologies and initiatives to grow with the needs of the campaign.
