The Role

To contribute to and influence the strategy of the Tax Team; to lead and be recognised internally and externally as an expert on the tax workstream of cross-Directorate projects and on tax matters affecting The Corporation and its Members; to lead, manage and inspire the resources of the Team to achieve agreed objectives and to manage work within agreed budgets.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Oversee financial reporting and tax compliance for The Corporation of Lloyd's;
  • Oversee and manage BEPS Pillar 2 implementation for the Corporation of Lloyd's;
  • Overseeing the Employment Tax Advisor in relation to providing employment tax advice to the Corporation;
  • Leading and managing the provision of support and advice to other Teams in the Corporation , in conjunction with advisers where necessary, on domestic tax projects (including new legislation) and large contracts; responding to HMRC consultations where relevant and liaison with UK tax authorities, in conjunction with advisers where necessary, to try to ensure tax rules do not disadvantage Lloyd's vs comparable organisations;
  • Leading on tax risk management within the department in conjunction with the Lloyd's Risk Function
  • Lead, develop and be accountable for the performance of their team
  • Contribute to departmental planning, budgeting and organisation

Skills

  • Strong oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate tax-technical issues to a non-tax audience;
  • Ability to work independently with guidance only on complex issues and organise and prioritise own work
  • Ability to work as part of a team and liaise with other departments and external contacts
  • Ability to analyse changes in legislation and assess impact of changes on Lloyd's
  • Proactive attitude toward identifying issues and recommending solutions based on initiative, experience and understanding of procedures
  • Confidence to challenge information provided and to use initiative especially in dealing with areas of ambiguity
  • Consultative approach and the ability to manage conflicting views

Experience

  • Solid and broad understanding in UK corporation / employment taxes;
  • An awareness of significant UK and international tax issues;
  • Experience of managing a team
