Plant Hire Controller and Buyer - Overview:

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Plant Hire Controller and Buyer to join our dynamic construction team. The ideal candidate will manage the procurement and hiring of plant equipment, ensuring efficient and cost-effective operations. This role is critical in supporting our construction projects by ensuring that all plant and equipment needs are met on time and within budget.

Plant Hire Controller and Buyer - Key Responsibilities

Plant Hire Management:

  • Coordinate the hiring and off-hiring of plant and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of hired equipment, including hire dates, return dates, and costs.
  • Ensure that all hired equipment meets safety and operational standards.
  • Negotiate hire rates and terms with suppliers to achieve the best value for the company.
  • Procurement:
    • Identify and evaluate suppliers for the purchase of new and used plant equipment and materials
    • Manage the procurement process from requisition to delivery.
    • Conduct market research to stay updated on equipment trends and pricing.
    • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and negotiate favorable terms.

Inventory Management:

  • Monitor and manage the inventory of plant equipment,fleet, ensuring optimal stock levels.
  • Oversee the maintenance and servicing schedules of owned plant equipment and fleet.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record-keeping for all transactions and inventory.

Cost Control:

  • Track and analyze expenditure on plant hire and purchases.
  • Implement cost-saving strategies without compromising on quality and safety.
  • Prepare and present regular reports on plant hire and procurement activities.

Compliance and Safety:

  • Ensure all hired and purchased equipment complies with industry regulations and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the health and safety team to conduct regular inspections and audits.
  • Address and resolve any issues related to equipment safety and compliance promptly.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other stakeholders to understand their equipment needs.
  • Provide timely updates on equipment availability and delivery schedules.
  • Foster a collaborative environment to enhance team efficiency and project success.

Plant Hire Controller and Buyer - Experience:

  • Proven experience in plant hire and procurement within the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of plant equipment and machinery used in construction projects.
  • Experience in negotiating contracts and managing supplier relationships.
