Our client is a privately owned self-storage business with an array of sites across London and the South-East.

Our client is a privately owned self-storage business with a considerable array of sites across London and the South-East all dedicated to the self-storage market. As part of their expansion, they wish to recruit an experienced and well-established senior operations director for what is a well established and successful entity with considerable potential for further growth.

Main Duties & Responsibilities of the Successful candidate will be:

  • Drive forward the strategic development of storage operations and deliver outstanding performance in all aspects of the business.
    • Be the key representative of the company in communicating important decisions to business stakeholders and the public.
    • Lead and direct the General Manager of Operations and a team of Regional Managers to develop, implement, and monitor highest standards of operational systems and processes that provide visibility into goals, progress, and challenges for our key initiatives.
    • Create a positive company culture through strong, inspirational leadership.
    • Lead and direct the Head of Strategic Projects and Head of IT, in implementing cost effective systems and technologies that supports automation and time efficiency.
    • Carry out a strategic review of our existing operational systems and ensure these are appropriate and effective for our business and recommend changes, if applicable.
    • Analyse, develop and implement effective sales strategies to increase revenue.
    • Assist the shareholders in developing strategies for deciding on the locations of the future stores.
    • Set operational targets for the General Manager of Operations and Regional Managers to ensure these are consistently achieved through regular reviews.
    • Maximize efficiency and productivity through extensive process analysis and interdepartmental collaboration.
    • Through the direct reports, plan, monitor, and analyse key metrics for the day-to-day performance of the storage operations to ensure efficient and timely completion of tasks.
    • Assist the Ownership in formulating the annual budget and monthly forecasting methodology.
    • Work closely with HR to lead team with integrity and establish and maintain a trusting, inclusive, and productive environment.
    • Conduct regular operations team meeting with all direct reports to discuss routine operational matters, sales targets, and action taken for any outstanding operational issues.
    • Constantly evaluating local, national, and international market trends, vendors and other storage operations to ensure that the client remains competitive in the market.
    • Ensure that the stores are adhering to relevant legal, health and safety regulations and guidelines.
    • Prepare performance reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising data and trends for shareholder review.

    The Successful Candidate will have:

    • At least 7-10 years of proven work experience as Operations Director/Managing Director or in a similar senior role in a multi-site operational real estate, leisure or retail business.
    • Experience of working within storage industry will be beneficial but is not essential.
    • Experience of multi-site management is essential.
    • Proven success as a senior executive managing departmental teams.
    • Must have a strong knowledge of the UK retail, leisure or operational real estate markets including self-storage with exceptional business acumen and commercial awareness.
    • Excellent knowledge of multiple operational functions and principles, including finance, customer service, and people management.
    • Proven ability to plan and manage operational process for maximum efficiency and productivity.

    Skills and Experiences of the New Appointee:
  • • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • A self-starter, highly motivated, enthusiastic, dedicated and driven to achieve high standards and results.
    • A natural leader who can coach, develop, led, and motivate a team to deliver high performance.
    • Proficient computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Strong commercial awareness, a finger on the pulse and a strong eye for detail and change.
    • Courteous, friendly, and flexible.
    • Good organizational, planning and time management skills.
    • Ability to prioritize work appropriately and multi-task. Works well under pressure and to tight deadlines.
