Job Title: International Science Partnerships Fund Officer: Global Health.
Salary: £28,498 per annum
Hours: Full Time or Part Time (80% minimum)
Contract Type: Fixed Term- March 2025 (possibility of extension)

Here at the Medical Research Council (MRC) we are looking for a Funding Officer to contribute to the work of the International Relations Directorate by providing project management support to international funding activities and strategic planning activities. This exciting role is critical to MRC's mission to improve human health, through world class medical research.

Key Responsibilities

Providing administrative support for MRC's global health research programmes related to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology's International Science Partnerships Fund (ISPF):

  • Responding to queries from grant applicants: Be the first point of contact for anyone interested in applying to the schemes.
  • Application processing: Provide administrative support for delivery of MRC funding schemes.
  • Working as part of a team to ensure tasks are delivered to time.
  • Peer review: Overseeing the process, by which applications are assessed.
  • Providing support to colleagues as well as responding to queries from reviewers.
  • Identifying and managing conflicts of interest in peer review.
  • Organising and attending funding panel meetings.
  • Liaising with applicants, panel members, and MRC staff to ensure smooth running of the meetings.
  • Managing scoring and logistics on the day.
  • Drafting documents: Drafting papers for funding/strategic meetings, providing input to grant application guidance documents, working with both internal and external partners.
  • Grants management: Supporting applicants throughout the duration of their award, being first point of contact to manage enquiries received.
  • Financial monitoring: Supporting the Global Health manager by working with a variety of teams to monitor UK and overseas awards, including additional due diligence of high-risk awards.
  • ISPF monitoring: Assisting as appropriate in the management and reporting of MRC's ISPF activities. This includes providing budget management support, for example recording and monitoring ISPF spend/commitments against budgets and budget forecasting.
  • Coordinating financial reporting.
  • Provide administrative support for strategic meetings with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide project management support for strategic activities relating to global health research capacity strengthening.

Person Specification:

  • Educated to A-level or equivalent
  • Experience of working in an administrative environment within a team
  • Evidence of being able to follow process and for using own initiative to progress projects.
  • Experience of delivering to deadlines within tight timescales
  • Ability to work on multiple areas and independently prioritise workload
  • Ability to proactively manage own time
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good analytical skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Clear, concise written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work with a variety of stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to adapt to new systems and processes and modify procedures in response to changing work needs.
  • Leadership skills
