Islington, London NOTTING HILL GENESIS
Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for a soon-to-be graduate surveyor working as part of a team serving the residents of one of London's largest Housing Associations. With 67,000 homes in and around London and nearly two in every 100 Londoners living in one of our homes, Notting Hill Genesis has been an innovative and important player in London's housing story for nearly 60 years. We are recruiting now based on skills, predicted grades, and alignment with NHG values. The successful candidate will start with us as a Graduate Surveyor as soon as they complete their exams - even before you receive your final result.

We care about the wellbeing of our people, and we believe this makes Notting Hill Genesis a great place to work: a place where you'll feel supported and valued. You'll use your skill set and drive to ensure that we do what we say we will, keeping our residents safe and putting them at the centre of everything we do. We will support you in gaining the experience to match the theoretical knowledge you have gained through your degree. We will offer you a bespoke training and mentoring programme to support your career development, focusing on transferable, soft skills to sit alongside what you learn on-the-job. We will also help you work towards your RICS accreditation. When the two years with us are over, you will be ideally placed and supported to apply for permanent surveyor roles with NHG.

Main Responsibilities

Our homes range from Victorian street properties more than 120 years old to new developments built in the last year, and as part of our Repairs team you will have a unique opportunity to get to know a wide range of experience helping the team deliver a high quality, customer-focused service. Fixing things fast and well is one of the key objectives in our customer plan and our Better Together strategy. As a graduate surveyor you will use your knowledge of surveying to ensure we continue to maintain better homes for our residents, listening and connecting with them, to ensure we take care of their homes and communities.

Our aim is to offer our residents a reliable, customer-focused repairs service that safeguards our organisation and our residents, now and for the future. As a graduate surveyor you will implement your technical knowledge to support surveyors, senior surveyors, and other repairs colleagues to maintain technical information on NHG homes, enabling us to continuously deliver and manage safe, high quality homes to our residents. You will assist the repairs team to proactively oversee and better manage our homes; assessing their state of repair, planning works, and managing contractor performance.

As an NHG Graduate Surveyor your work will be driven by enquiries from your operations partners across the business such as housing officers and property managers. You will work closely across teams to deliver a personalised customer-focused service, building good relationships with colleagues and contractors and providing advice to ensure we consistently fulfil our commitments to our residents and meet our promises in the Better Together Strategy and our Customer Strategy.

Day to day activities will include undertaking property inspections and producing work specifications, arranging appointments with residents and contractors, creating purchase orders on different platforms, instructing contractors, agreeing costs, overseeing repairs until completion, signing off repairs, and paying contractors. There will also be regular learning through coaching, training courses, project work and shadowing. You will assist the team to better manage our contracts so that we are getting the best value and service from these, learning consistently from our data, and making the most of commercial efficiencies. Everything you do will play a role in providing good quality homes that allow our residents to live their lives well.
