VTA Recruitment are seeking a Continuous Improvement Manager for our client, a leading waste management company in Bristol.

Are you passionate about driving continuous improvement and optimizing performance in distribution operations? We are seeking a Continuous Improvement Manager to enhance all operational aspects of our clients distribution activities, ensuring a best-in-class customer experience. Utilizing systems, data, and best practices, you will identify opportunities for improvement and act as a bridge between Operations, Hauliers, Customers, Procurement, and the Distribution team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and plan project activities within the distribution/operations teams related to national bulk haulage.
  • Manage and deliver improvement projects such as failed loads, wasted journeys, steady order placement, auction process, forecast ordering, payload optimization, automated reporting, and standardized ways of working.
  • Conduct research and travel to sites/customers across the UK to identify and implement agreed changes to distribution systems and processes.
  • Advise, train, and assist other stakeholders on Distribution systems and processes.
  • Engage with stakeholders (vendors and customers) to promote the benefits of the TMS software.
  • Continuously improve the Distribution Planner process and manage the rollout of improvements with each planner.
  • Provide national cover for Distribution Planners during absences, ensuring regular shadowing/update meetings.
  • Manage and control performance metric processes behind improvement and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Extract accurate data from TMS, analyze it, and circulate performance reporting.
  • Interface with Distribution Ops managers, Systems manager, RMs, and PMs to determine system implementation or amendments.
  • Arrange and establish regular meetings with operational and haulage partners to discuss KPI reporting on site and haulage performance.

Skills

  • Proactive approach with a proven track record of problem-solving.
  • Strong planning and organizing skills to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Expertise in root cause analysis for issue identification and problem resolution.
  • Proficiency in data analysis.
  • Familiarity with 5S organization/Lean thinking, value stream mapping, and waste elimination.
  • Ability to develop, manage, and maintain good business relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to make considered and timely decisions based on intuition and/or sound reasoning and analysis.
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure and manage conflicting priorities.
  • Inquisitive and investigative approach to problem-solving with the ability to influence at a senior level.

Knowledge:

  • Deep understanding of project management/delivery, including system implementation and standardization.
  • A good understanding of the waste industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of distribution/logistics operations, HGV configurations, fuel types, coupling heights, trailer heights, HGV running costs, etc.
  • Financial awareness.
  • Excellent MS Office skills, particularly Excel and pivot tables.
  • Lean principles, Six Sigma, 5S workplace organization methodology.
  • Transport Operators CPC.
  • Value stream mapping/flow charting.

Specific Candidate Requirements:

  • Clean UK driving license.
  • Lean Practitioner.
  • Deep understanding of bulk transport operations.
  • System design, system architecture, and relational databases proficiency.
  • Proficient in data analysis.

Qualifications:

  • Project Management Fundamentals Qualification or similar is highly desirable.
  • Lean Practitioner certification.
