Building Inspector-Voids for a Local Authority!

Your new role
In the role of Building Inspector (Void work) for Housing, your portfolio will encompass:
• Safety Assurance: Ensuring accommodations comply with the highest safety standards set by UK building regulations and the criteria established in the cabinet form. This includes utilising innovative inspection technologies.
• Pre-void work Checks: Collaboratively reviewing blueprints and site plans before void work commences to avoid any potential pitfalls or violations.
• On-site Inspections: Regularly visiting void work sites to ensure that works are on track and meeting the predefined standards. You will employ state-of-the-art tools to capture defects and accurately analyse findings.
• Post-void work Review: Once works are completed, you'll be responsible for a thorough review of the accommodation to ensure it is fit for residents. Meticulous defects and accurately analyse findings.
• Collaboration and Consultation: Working closely with contractors, architects, and the planners and other stakeholders to ensure all accommodation meets the stipulated guidelines. Relationship Management is critical.
• Continuous Learning: Keeping abreast with the evolving building regulations and codes in the UK, especially as they pertain to temporary accommodation.
• Compliance and Risk Management: Ensuring void work and accommodation adhere to all health, Safety and compliance norms through comprehensive risk analysis and mitigation.
• Contractor Management: Managing procurement processes and overseeing contractors where relevant to ensure budgetary responsibility.
Your contributions will play an instrumental role in ensuring that the temporary accommodations within Westminster are safe, compliant, and comfortable for our residents. By ensuring that these standards are upheld, you help maintain the trust and confidence of our community in the council's operations.
You will report directly to the Senior Investment Manager. Collaborative teamwork with up to two direct reports, multiple contractors, and suppliers will be key to your role's success.
What you'll need to succeed
A successful candidate will have a track record of overseeing large-scale construction projects, preferably in the public sector. Your experience should reflect your commitment to safety, efficiency, and meticulous attention to detail.
Your expertise should extend beyond the basics of building inspection. You must be adept at managing relationships with a variety of stakeholders, from contractors to senior council members. Strong analytical skills, a proactive approach, and adaptability in fast-paced environments will serve you well.

Qualifications:
• Architecture, or Building Surveying from a UK institution or equivalent experience or a recognised bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
• Valid certificate for building inspection from a UK accredited body.
• Proficiency in modern building inspection tools and software.
• A deep understanding of UK building codes and regulations.
• Must be MRICS or MCIOB qualified
