Job Purpose

Job Title - Bid Writer

Location - London (Aldgate House)

Hybrid

Role purpose

A great opportunity within our successful proposals team for an experienced Bid Writer, to support the development of content and strategy and to research, develop and review high-scoring answers to produce winning bids. The successful candidate will join a close-knit, highly motivated, and supportive team who are responsible for working on over £5bn worth of tenders annually across all divisions within ISG - Fit Out, Construction, Data Centre's and Hyperscale.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide written content for business-critical private and public sector bids and national frameworks.
  • Provide support to subject matter experts to write engaging and technically correct content for tenders, PQQs and our Bid Asset Library
  • Attend start-up meetings with production team to agree strategy, content, and actions.
  • Work with bid managers, directors, or project managers to assign responsibilities for technical responses.
  • Provide written content before tenders arrive where applicable.
  • Dissect questions and produce answer plans to maximise relevant information extracted from subject matter experts.
  • Lead answer planning workshops.
  • Review and record client scoring from each bid and work with team leads to establish where changes could be adopted to drive continuous improvement.
  • Ensure a consistently high standard of content is available on the bid asset library, working with others, to ensure it is being regularly maintained and updated.
  • Ensure bid asset library responsibilities for self and other writers are kept on track
  • Capture best practice information from submissions to drive continuous improvement
  • Review, edit and write material for case studies, project profiles and CVs
  • Build trust and credibility with stakeholders from across the business
  • Support your colleagues in the proposals team at critical deadlines
  • Support others to peer review content
  • Potential line management for another bid writer or writers
  • Help others grow and develop, carrying out mentoring and support
  • Support our early careers programmes to work with graduates and apprentices
  • Lead or support in the induction of new team members and carry out training
  • Input and lead presentations, team meetings and away days
  • Ensure conformity with brand writing guidelines.
Essential skills and experience
  • Experience from within the Construction Industry; and industry specific knowledge of Bid Writer roles and responsibilities within the construction market
  • Experience of public sector bids and mini competitions is essential with private sector bid experience being beneficial.
  • Ability to review technical content with a good knowledge of construction process.
  • Evidence of having produced written content for successful bids.
  • Experience of responding to framework bids and mini competitions
  • Good quality research skills and effective questioning techniques
  • Experienced with stakeholder management.
  • Evidence of the ability to mentor and develop other writers and an enthusiasm for this is essential.
  • High level of working knowledge of MS Word including working with templates
  • Ability to influence and persuade others and have strong attention to detail.
  • Exceptional proof reading and editing skills and excellent eye for accuracy.
  • Must be able to take full accountability for their role, judgements and decisions.
  • Must be organised and able prioritise own and others work- loads.

  • Ability to review technical content with a good knowledge of construction process.
  • A knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics would be advantageous but not essential as training will be given.
Qualifications
  • APMP qualified or an openness to join our corporate programme to become qualified.
  • Preferably qualified to degree level or similar in a relevant field
